Snow pics

These pictures were taken January 23 and probably the biggest snow we had this year :( Maci loved to watch the huge snowflakes fall earlier the evening before and was so excited to go out and play in it. I am sad there wasn't more so we could build a snowman, but there is still hope in the next month. (We had lost one glove so if you notice a sock on one of her hands, that is the reason why.)

Wichita Zoo

I know I am a few months behind, but while in Kansas, we went to the Sedgewick County Zoo. Maci absolutely loved every minute of it. Here Grandma Held is feeding the sheep close enough so Maci could see.
Hmm, David was enjoying this way too much. Think he was going back to his teenage years when he raised sheep.
Here we were in the jungle area. Maci loved seeing all the birds flying around.
She even refused to nap until we held her still long enough for her to realize how exhausted she was.We were there for feeding time with the otters. That was quite the excitement! The only thing between us and that tiger was thick glass.
Love this animal, but never know what it is.
We had a fabulous time. A six hour zoo adventure was plenty for us. This is a really big zoo and we didn't really get to see the gorilla exhibit. Maybe next time.

Christmas in Kansas #2

The lucky girl had 3 different outfits to wear for Christmas. I heart Santa on Christmas Eve Day, Christmas pj's given from the grandparents, a Christmas dress and a Mrs. Clause outfit for Christmas day. Guess that is 4. (And I spent less than $10!)
Every time we were outside, Maci had to check out the snowmen.
Family picture. Had to pull teeth to get David to stay in his Sunday clothes for a few more minutes and then had to tickle Maci so she would smile and look at the camera.Maci loves playing with Uncle Eric!

I don't know if this video will work, but she is dancing in her Santa outfit.

Maci loved everything about Christmas; baby Jesus, her Christmas Story quiet book, the music, lights, Christmas tree and Santa. I think her favorite was driving around looking at Christmas lights. Every time she saw a Santa Clause, she would point and say Sssss. I would say Ho, Ho, Ho and most often would try to repeat it. (We did try for a picture with Santa but not this year.) She always danced to any Christmas music. We had to wake her up on Christmas morning and she wasn't too interested in tearing paper off her gifts but loved all of her toys. I was worried she would want her cousins toys more than her own but she didn't. Our plan was to have very few gifts because they aren't that important at this age. Balls, cars, books, shoes, learning toys, talking toys, cat flashlight. Hmm, maybe we will do better next year...

Christmas in Kansas #1

Christmas was so much fun in sunny Kansas. We packed way too many long sleeve clothing and not enough sandals and short sleeves!!! Maci just loved being around her cousins. It was always wild and crazy when everyone was awake and wonderfully peaceful when everyone was napping or sleeping.
Maci especially loved being around Kirra. "Cousin twins" being born on the same day. This was a daily ritual. Or it was the other way around. The other extremely cute bonding time was when Kirra wore Maci's new shoes. These aren't just any shoes, they are squeaker shoes. So both of them are smiling and laughing at each other as they listen to themselves squeak and chase each other. So adorable!!!Sarah loved playing with Maci. I promise, that's a huge smile on her face and lots of laughing.Carly was in on the fun, too. She and Maci spent a few afternoons outside with me and they let me take a few pictures. They were having too much fun to look at the camera, though.Poor Haily wasn't feeling too well during the break so I didn't get any pics of her with Maci :(

First word

"Burp" Yep, that is her first actual work (other than mom or dad) Every time she does it, we say the word and since those are easy sounds for her, the word just came out. Just now is she understanding the word "uh-oh" and is now trying to say it. She has her own sounds for thank you. She loves to mimic everything. I direct music a lot at church and she thinks that is a normal thing to do when she hears music. She loves to sing and dance. She even has her own dance moves. (she has just recently combined dancing and walking so it looks like she is penguin walking) No one taught her what dancing is, she started it on her own. That makes me think that music will be a big part of her life. One evening, she was over tired and wouldn't fall asleep so I put the laptop at her door to play some soft Christmas music. She immediately calmed down but the music stopped for some reason and she started crying. I fixed the problem and she quickly fell asleep.

The day after Thanksgiving, the town puts on a Christmas parade so we lined up to watch it in the pickup. Every time a float with Christmas lights came around we all oood' and ahhh'd. Now every time she sees Christmas lights, she ooo's in a high pitched voice. So cute!

Maci can point out where your nose is and also the eyes (she usually pokes your eyes) and we are working on the teeth. Her top molars kind of snuck up on us. She was having really runny diapers and I thought it was because she was loving her oatmeal. But a few days later, I thought she was chewing on a piece of paper and saw that they were teeth. She is still teething today and is quite fussy and clingy, which is a new experience for all of us.

She loves to play peek-a-boo and chasing and being chased. She growls really good and my personal favorite: she knows the sound a cow makes. When she sees a cow, she moos. Love it! Definitely my girl! She points at everything and makes a snake (sssss) noise.

I haven't found any cute Christmas clothes this year so we went outside to take some winter pictures. She loves to watch the snow fall. It was magical for her. Christmas will be in Kansas this year with 4 girl cousins to play with. Super excited for Christmas morning.

1st Birthday

Happy Birthday sweet baby girl. These last 365 days have been the best days of our lives!
